MAPLE, ONTARIO (June 30, 2010) – Other than painting their race car, The Skull Motorsports Team of Ralph Andreacchi and Tony Piselli have only made a few minor changes to their Corvette Pro Modified for this year’s Pro Modified Racing Association series.
“We haven’t made many changes this season,” noted car tuner and former team driver Ralph Andreacchi, who has won PMRA events in the past behind the wheel.Powered by an Al Billes Racing 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) Supercharged Hemi, the engine sits between the frame rails of a Tim McAmis Race Car chassis. Behind the engine is a Bruno’s Automotive Products Lenco transmission, and the car is fuelled with an Al Billes Racing fuel system. A Kobelco K-11 supercharger, which Andreacchi said is running a 20 percent overdrive as per NHRA specs, sits atop the engine.
With Piselli driving and Andreacchi as head tuner, Eric, Frank, Jonathon and Joseph make up the rest of the Skull team. Sponsors include Al Billes Racing, Desserts Plus, J.E. Construction & Haulage, and Paul Wolf Lighting & Electric Supply Ltd.
Andreacchi noted that he is thankful to the help and guidance of Pro Modified guru Al Billes, who has helped the team immensely over the years.
He also noted that with new teams for 2010 and veteran teams upgrading their efforts, competition in the PMRA is going to be stronger.“It’s going to be a tough series,” he said. “We will have to step it up. Everybody will be on their game this year.”
Team driver Tony Piselli concurred with Andreacchi.
“The competition is fierce, everybody can run hard, and we can't take anyone lightly,” said Piselli. “I will be on my game at every hit. We just want to take it one pass at a time and go from there. We have all the right stuff to make strides, we just need to line it all up and send it."
The team will take part in the next PMRA event, the Canadian Nitro Nationals and AHRA Reunion Tour on the Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park July 2-4.
With an eye on providing a diversified and entertaining program of racing, Toronto Motorsports Park management will present competition in the sport’s top classes, Top Fuel Dragster and Nitro Funny Car, PMRA Pro Modifieds as well as Jet Car action, and a round in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series.
With close to 8000 horsepower on tap, cars in the Top Fuel Dragster and Nitro Funny Car divisions are the fastest-accelerating cars on the planet, and are rarely seen in Canada, but Toronto Motorsports Park will present some of the best in the sport, including those of former International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) champions Spencer Massey, Del Cox and Dale Creasy.
Canadians will be well-represented as Todd Paton and Fred Farndon will gear up and make their Top Fuel passes down the Cayuga quarter-mile.
The Canadian Nitro Nationals action gets underway Friday July 2 with a qualifying round in the PMRA and Quick 32 Sportsman Series, plus the first of several runs by the 300-mph Jet Dragsters of Black Ice and Terminator, starting at 8:00 pm.Qualifying in both the PMRA and Quick 32 takes place Saturday morning and afternoon, and then the nitro cars take to the track in two sessions, at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Elimination rounds will be held for Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the third of four PMRA qualifiers will take place. Fans will then be treated to a fireworks display and live music on the TMP grounds.
The Top Fuel Dragsters return Sunday at 1:00 pm for more match-ups, and eliminations will take place in all classes throughout the day, with final rounds scheduled for 5:00 pm.
Ticket prices for this must-see event range from $20 on the Friday for an adult to $40 on the Saturday, $30 on Sunday with a weekend pass available for $80. Youth and children passes are also available, as well as weekend camping.
About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA): The Pro Modified Racing Association, www.PMRA.ca, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its sixth year of operation in 2010. The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). In 2010 the PMRA will compete at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario and the South-western Ontario track of the Grand Bend Motorplex.
Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and colorful classes, offering a diverse group of race cars with 2,500-horsepower-plus engines in supercharged, nitrous-powered, or turbocharged format.
Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 230 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
Several of the PMRA events are run in conjunction with the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts, www.Quick32.ca, offering fans a great show of drag racing. For more information, please contact:Bruce F. Mehlenbacher
