Jeff Kerl and his family and crew celebrate one of his 7 wins! by George Pease Successful family bracket racers have dominated the national headlines for years. Names like the Richardson’s, Biondo’s, Folk’s and many more have grabbed the national limelight for some time. Locally in the Western New York contingent of excellent racers, an all too familiar name pops up in the winners circle and championship awards ceremonies. That would be the Kerl family which includes father Gary and sons Greg and Jeff. Their resume includes class championships in 1996, 97, 98, 99, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2009 and many top five finishes plus a third place finish in the TNT Super Series Hot Rod category.

 Robert Bauer III lives in Elma, New York with his Dad Bob and his Mother Michelle. He started racing in 2008, making a dozen or so passes in the 12.90’s with a motor that his Dad purchased from Rich Halleen. From there, he took the car to Vic Puglia Race Cars to have the chassis updated. Then he commissioned D&K Small Engine Repair to build them a complete and consistent 9.90 motor. They made it back to the track in late August of 2008 and made some good passes.

Bob Bauer Jr's new Pontiac GTO!

 Bob Bauer Jr. lives in Elma, New York. He runs and operates Galaxy Auto Place Service Center. He started racing in 1994 with a 1981 Camaro racing in the Heavy ET (non-electronics) class and won his first time out! He then moved up to a 1977 Vega wagon that he ran for 13 years in the Pro ET class. In 2009 he hired John Torrelli of Torrelli Pro Cars in Lockport, NY to build him a new Pontiac GTO built around a legal Pro Stock design. It features a five star light weight composite body, carbon fiber front end, carbon fiber tubs, fabricated TPC housing, Strange 40 spline gun drilled axles, brakes, struts and an Ultra Case 3rd member. American Racing Pro series wheels are mounted to 33.5x17 Hoosier slicks and front runners. Kevin Ryan at R&R Racing Trannys in Olean, NY built the powerglide transmission that features a Transmission Specialties 1:80 gear set, pro tree brake, solenoid and Torque Converter.

Tim & Mike Moore Tim Moore lives in Falconer, New York with his wife Debbie and his son Mike who is now serving in the United States Air Force in Afghanistan. He’s a bearing maker at SKF Automotive. Moore been bracket racing for many years and his list of accomplishments on the track are quite impressive. Besides always going rounds in Super Pro/Top ET competition, he won the IHRA Bracket Finals Division 3 title in Top ET in 2002 with his Oldsmobile.

Brett Klinger lives in Blasdell, New York with his father Randy, mother Cathy and sisters Amanda and Kim. He’s a student at Frontier High School and has been racing for 8 seasons in the Junior Dragster ranks. In 8 seasons he has amassed quite a list of achievements including wins at Cordova Dragway, Maryland International Dragway and at National Trail Raceway in 2003 plus a runner-up finish at Milan Dragway that same year. In 2004 and in 2005, he finished in second place in the points at New York International Raceway Park. In 2006, he won the Race of Champions at Dunn Tire Raceway Park. Last season he won the Junior Dragster Championship at the IHRA Bracket Finals at Pittsburgh Raceway Park. His Junior Dragster is a Mike Boss RED. He thanks his grandfather Randall, father Randy and Sentry Auto Service for all of their help and support.
